Minimum Wage and National Living Wage from April 2018

As an employer, it’s important to keep track of the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage if you have staff that are being paid at this level.

From the 1st April 2018, the government is increasing National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates. This means that employees of school leaving age, will get the increase in National Minimum Wage. And if they are aged 25, you will receive the increased National Living Wage rate.

 Do you have any apprentices?

 If you have an apprentice or are considering taking on an apprentice, they are entitled to the apprentice rate if:

  • aged under 19
  • aged 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

For apprentices aged 19 or over are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they have completed the first year of their apprenticeship.
